The Most-Wanted Payday Fashion treats for this season

These three statement-making style buys are well worth the post payday splurge.

They say all good things come to those who wait – until payday at least! Check out our top three must-have items, which are well worth eating beans on toast and forgoing your morning coffee run until the end of the month. They’re all available at the Mall of the Emirates – the IT place to go for the best shopping in Dubai.

Spend it like Beckham

Make like a woman in red in this stunning satin backed number from Victoria Beckham, because this is one red-hot trend that shows no sign of going away. The talented Spice Girl turned designer has found her fashion feet over the last few seasons, and her scarlet collection shows her style is going from strength to strength.

Artist’s impression

Louis Vuitton’s Masters’ collection is the perfect arm candy for fashion followers who believe that fashion really is art. The iconic designer’s long-awaited collaboration with trendy Jeff Koons features reproductions of five of the art masters (only Da Vinci and Van Gogh are available in the Middle East), but the Van Gogh pieces are definitely our firm favourite. Confession: we’ve had our eyes on these limited edition bags for months now, but with payday around the corner, they are definitely worth the wait.

Royal brocade

Brocade is one of the big autumn/winter trends this year and luckily because it only rains once a year in the Middle East, the climate favours the textured material. For brocade that won’t cost the king’s ransom, fashionistas should flock to Tory Burch.

Outside-the-Box Beauty

Think outside the box with on-trend beauty looks from these premium brands in Dubai.

As the season changes, it is not just your wardrobe that needs updating, but your beauty wardrobe too. This season’s best beauty buys are all about nostalgia, with thick eyeliner, 60s style eyelashes and deep, dark romantic lips from the 70s. However, just to keep things interesting, there’s a flash of heavy metal, with ultra modern nails.

Smudged lips were everywhere this season

Forget lip liner – autumn/winter 2017 is all about deliberately stained, smudged and diffused lipstick - the darker, the better. The look, which was seen at London Fashion Week on Preen, Roland Mouret and Temperley, all the way through the fashion ranks to Topshop Unique, is about creating a style that screams life is too busy for perfection.

While some of us are still clinging on to the last remaining weeks of summer, the new fashion calendar officially switches in September. Marking the start of Autumn/Winter 2017, it all kicks off and trust us, there is plenty to get excited about on the trend front this season.

So make way for the new with our mini tally of the top trends to try and the IT pieces to buy from Mall of the Emirates, one of the leading shopping malls in the UAE.

Into The Wild

Welcome to the Wild West! Led by the House of Holland, Ashley Williams and Erdem, we spotted plenty of cowgirl-style boots, hides, and hats amongst the new collections. While over at Bora Aksu and Temperley London there was a softer take on the trend with feminine Prairie-inspired frocks and high-neck lace blouses.

Send tots back to class with the kit they’ll need and a smile on their face

Back to school in Dubai 2017

As the long summer break ends, the week leading up to the first day of the term can be a whirlwind of preparation. No matter how many lists are penned, there always appears to be a seemingly never-ending array of errands, from buying new school supplies to stocking the fridge with lunchbox snacks and updating uniforms for your ever-growing tot.

Before battling out your to-dos, take a look at our insider guide to getting everything your youngster will need for school from the Dubai shopping malls.

The shopping malls in Dubai are filled with plenty of shops filled with fun learning tools to ensure they’re thoroughly prepped for class. Typo is one of our top picks and stashed with a fun hoard of quirky stationary treats.

Beauty Talk: The Answer to your Biggest Beauty Dilemmas

With just one day to go before an important event, an angry red pimple has risen over night and is now glaring back at you from the mirror. We’ve all fallen victim to an SOS beauty woe, be it swollen spots, unsightly ingrown hairs or even lank, greasy roots.

Here, we share our pro beauty hacks to combatting any concern.

The issue: broken-out pores
Whether we’ve had one too many late nights combined with fast food or a hormonal outburst around our chin, pimples happen to the best of us. Wherever the location of your new addition, do not pick or squeeze, especially if you have important plans for the next day. This will only aggravate the area, increasing the size and redness. Instead, keep your skin squeaky clean and, if you can, forgo the make-up, which will only further clog up your pores. Apply an overnight zinc or salicylic acid-based treatment, and in the morning ice the area for a few minutes to bring redness and swelling down.

Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions, Dhs152, Sephora Dubai, visit Mall of the Emirates

The issue: in-grown hairs
Most women will struggle with in-grown hairs at one point or another. The main problem areas are usually on legs, underarms or bikini lines. While this skin issue can be tricky to get rid of, regularly (and gently) exfoliating the area with scrubbing gloves and a mild scent-free body wash before and after hair removal will certainly help reduce the bumps.
If shaving is your preferred hair removal method, be sure to always use a moisturizing shaving cream or foam and shave in the direction (never against) your hair’s natural growth.

Exfoliating Bath Gloves, Dhs26, The Body Shop, visit Mall of the Emirates

The issue: an oily scalp
An oily scalp could be the result of over-washing your hair or be a build-up of products such as serum and holding spray. A brilliant and natural way to remove excess build-up and deeply cleanse locks is a mix of apple cider vinegar and water – you can pick up a bottle from Carrefour supermarket in Mall of the Emirates. Similarly try a salon-strength balancing shampoo and do a double cleanse before lightly conditioning the ends.

Autumn/Winter 2016-17 Beauty

From high-sheen metallic lids to power brows, the new season catwalks did not disappoint in the beauty stakes.

Gone are the tanned beachy complexions and neon nails of summer. In their place, we see vamped-up cherry-red lips, sultry smokey eyes and a host of other wintery looks.

Here, we go behind the curtain to bring you our favourite backstage beauty looks to try yourself, along with the best beauty products to buy from Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.

Over at Milan Fashion Week, the models in the Angelo Marani show rocked metallic gunmetal lids, paired with dewy skin and a quick slick of lip balm. This easy-to-achieve beauty look requires no liner or falsies. Simply coat your lids with a shimmery wash of cream shadow and top off with lashings of mascara.
Beauty buy: Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Galaxy, Dhs160, Bobbi Brown at Harvey Nichols Dubai, visit Mall of the Emirates

Power brows are back, as spotted on the Salvatore Ferragamo catwalk. Framing the face, brows were thick and softy structured. Carefully trim or tweeze any strays before combing into place and setting with a brow powder to match your hair colour. If you prefer a more natural look, opt for a super long-lasting gel formula, such as the newly launched Gimme Brow Gel by Benefit.
Beauty buy: Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel, Dhs125, Benefit at Sephora Dubai, visit Mall of the Emirates

Cherry-red lips were a popular pick on the Winter runways. At the MSGM
show, the models’ pouts were painted in a glossy scarlet, offset with clean, glowing skin and a subtle slick of mascara. To ensure your lippy stays put all night long, prep your lips by buffing with a soft toothbrush before applying balm and a red lipstick. Dust with a translucent powder to set, before adding a coat of clear gloss.

Beauty tip: Give your tresses an extra treat by wrapping your hair in a warm towel after applying a mask. The heat will be trapped in and allow the moisturising mask to deeply penetrate your strands.

The shopping malls in the UAE are filled with all your favourite beauty halls and salons. In Mall of the Emirates alone, you will find Sephora Dubai, Harvey Nichols Dubai and Areej, along with lots of pampering grooming salons such as Sister’s Beauty Lounge and N Style Nail Lounge.

We’ve stalked the shelves the pick out the very best beautifying products to try now.

A bold feline flick is a sure-fire way to reboot your make-up look in a flash. While we’re all for a tried-and-true black liquid eyeliner, why not experiment with new hues such as cobalt blue or emerald green.

Beauty tip: Creating a super smooth flick can prove tricky even for the most experienced make-up gurus. Dip a cotton bud in micellar water to even out lines and neaten the flick.

High Beam, Dhs130, Sephora Dubai, visit Mall of the Emirates
Long day at the office? Nothing transforms a lacklustre complexion quite like a touch of shimmery highlighter. Instantly brighten and enhance your cheekbones, Cupid’s bow and brow bones with a dab of luminous liquid such as Benefit’s cult High Beam.

Autumn/Winter 2016-17: The Edit

With September marking the start of the new fashion season, we’re looking to some of the best shops in Mall of the Emirates to help update our wardrobe.

Leather trousers, Dhs7,060, Isabel Marant at Boutique 1, visit Mall of the Emirates
Leather just got a high gloss makeover courtesy of Parisian designer Isabel Marant. These buttery soft trousers will be a closet staple for years to come. Team with tucked-in T-shirts and heeled boots for easy everyday style.

Style tip: Look after your investment leather pieces by spot-cleaning. Simply apply pressure with a clean cloth and don’t rub as this can abrade the skin. If the piece really needs a deep clean, look for a dry cleaner who specialises in leather items - and remember to avoid washing machines at all costs!

Leather boots, Dhs4,195, Burberry Dubai, Mall of the Emirates
It’s finally the season to bring out your boots. After many months of sandals and espadrilles, we’re embracing all that autumn dressing has to offer in the shoe department. These luxurious leather boots accented with gold geometric heels by Burberry are topping our new season wish list.

Style tip: These classic leather boots are a true sartorial must-have. Wear with everything from skinny-fit denim to swingy midi skirts.

Printed blouse, Dhs169, Zara Dubai, visit Mall of the Emirates
Look out for soft bloom prints in burnished Autumnal shades of green, amber and chocolate. Complete with ruffled shoulders and long semi-sheer sleeves, we’re loving this pretty piece by Zara.

Shopping tip: Zara Dubai is one of our top places to look for on-trend IT pieces without breaking the bank. Case in point: this stylish floral blouse.

The Great Outdoors - Décor Buys In Dubai

  • Great Outdoors 00

With the cooler months on the horizon, it’s high time to overhaul your backyard. After many months of retreating to the air conditioning and neglecting our gardens, we’re looking to spruce up our outdoor space with a few new décor purchases.

The shopping malls in the Middle East are filled places to pick up homewares, from high-end interior stores such as The One, Villeroy & Boch and Harvey Nichols Dubai, to more affordable spots including Zara Home, Crate & Barrel Dubai and Home Centre.

We’ve scoured all of shops to source the most stylish pieces to buy now.

  • Great Outdoors 01

Artificial tree, Marina Home Interiors, visit Mall of the Emirates and City Centre Mirdif
Even the most eager green-thumbed friends wouldn’t know this orange tree was a faux.

Décor tip: If you’re not one for gardening look out for fake plants and trees instead – Artificial greenery is a lot less upkeep than the real thing and won’t malt leaves all over your patio. You can always add small succulents and cactuses into the mix, both of which require little care or watering.

  • Great Outdoors 023

Outdoor pillows, Crate & Barrel, visit Mall of the Emirates and City Centre Mirdif
Pair bright bohemian prints with block colour cushions on outdoor chairs and sofas.

Décor tip: Colourful cushions and printed rugs are an easy way to add instant life to a compact balcony or terrace. To keep the look cohesive, stick to a colour scheme but mix it up with a selection of different textures and patterns.

  • Great Outdoors 03

Metal lanterns, Zara Home, visit Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, City Centre Bahrain and City Centre Muscat

Décor tip: Load up on Arabesque lanterns in a mishmash of metals such as bronze and burnished silver. We advise buying battery candles as opposed to the real thing - they last longer, don’t make a waxy mess and won’t blow out in the breeze.

Closet Confidential

  • Closet Confidential 00

Will we ever really wear that red snakeskin skirt? And how often will we really put on that pair of thigh-high suede boots - especially in a country where the sun shines bright for nearly 365 days of the year!

These fleeting purchases are best saved for the high street, where you can pick up on-trend items for a pocket-friendly price tag at stores such as Zara Dubai and H&M Dubai. A smart tailored blazer or little black dress however might be worth parting with a few extra dirhams for.

Read on below as we reveal exactly where to invest on love-forever staples, and how to save on this season’s top trends.

Head to Mall of the Emirates in Dubai where you’ll find everything listed below and a plenty more all at your fingertips…

  • Closet Confidential 01

Black denim flares, Dhs199, Mango, visit Mall of the Emirates

SAVE: Jean trends come and go. Case in point: flares. Bell-bottoms trousers were huge in the Seventies, briefly came back in the nineties and have recently come back in fashion for the new season. Mango Dubai is one of our favourite spots to pick up affordable denim.

  • Closet Confidential 023

Leather handbag, Dhs15,495, Burberry Dubai, Mall of the Emirates
SPEND: Burberry’s best-selling ‘Banner’ bag comes in a huge variety of different exotic skins, colours and sizes. Opt for a neutral shade that will coordinate with a multitude of outfits - and save the zebra print and studded style for a work promotion or birthday treat!

Shopping tip: What watches are to the gents, bags are to women. We carry them every day and they hold all our necessities. A good quality everyday tote needs to be big enough to fit the essentials (phone, work files, emergency make-up bag, keys, perfume – the list could go on) while still being lightweight, and stylish of course. We’ll admit to a cupboard full of trendy bargain totes, but nothing beats carrying a beautifully crafted designer bag while we go about our days.

  • Closet Confidential 03

Shoes, Dhs469, Zara Dubai, visit Mall of the Emirates
SAVE: Pom poms are having a major moment in the world of fashion. We’ve spotted them everywhere; embellished onto bags, necklaces and summer frocks. This pair of spindly statement heels is bang on trend without breaking the bank.

Shopping tip: Get a head start and be the first in line for all the biggest seasonal sales as well as receive special deal alerts, by signing up to all your favourite shops’ frequent customer programs. Most stores now offer this, simply check in with an store sales assistant for further details.

  • Closet Confidential 04

Floral dress, Dhs3,550, Erdem at Boutique 1, visit Mall of the Emirates
SPEND: A floral frock is one of those wardrobes staples that you will pull out of your wardrobe and wear time and time again. Whether you pair with flat sandals for the weekend or smart soles and a blazer for the office, a bright bud print will forever be in style.

Beauty IT List: Hot Weather Skin Saviours

We’ve all seen the pictures of gleaming supermodels and actresses looking picture-perfect in glossy magazines. But then there are the off-duty tabloid snaps of these leading ladies on the beach, all smooth silky curls, glowing skin and not a blemish in sight. How do they do it?

Here in the UAE, the sweltering summer temperatures certainly make it tricky to remain polished – especially if you plan on hitting the beach.

But don’t worry – we’re on hand to help! We’ve grilled the leading brains in the beauty business to bring you the secret summer buys the A-list stars can’t live without.

Whether you’re on holiday and staying at a Dubai hotel or enjoying a weekend in the sun, be sure to pack these multitasking beauty favourites and let them do the hard work while you relax.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse, Dhs179, Boots, visit Mall of the Emirates

With more than 20 million bottles sold, this multipurpose dry oil has earned its status as a cult beauty icon. This one-stop shop for face, body and hair nourishes without the greasy finish most oils leave on skin. Enriched with vitamin E and precious plant oils, along with notes of rose, orange blossom and coconut, this softening oil can also be worn as perfume.

Lancaster Sun Beauty SPF50, Dhs120, Paris Gallery, visit Mall of the Emirates
We all know the importance of a high daily SPF, but most formulas leave a white residue or chalky texture. We recommend trying Lancaster’s best-selling Comfort Touch Cream, which has quickly become our go-to thanks to the lightweight and smooth finish. The formula aids in a safe tan while also working to maintain the skin’s firmness and improve elasticity.

Yves Saint Laurent Babydoll Kiss And Blush, Dhs187, Paris Gallery, visit Mall of the Emirates
Thanks to sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat, there is usually no need for make-up at the beach. But a dab of pink on lips and cheek will add a pop of healthy colour. This luxurious formula is a top pick and won’t melt in the heat.

Love Is In The Air

With a host of summer nuptials on the horizon, there’s no better time than the present to hit the Dubai shops and get your wedding wardrobe sorted.

As a guest of the bridal party there are some wedding wardrobe rules to abide by. For example, one must never wear white as this is often reserved solely for the bride and (depending on the theme) we advise avoiding anything overtly showy such as a sequinned mini dress or a black leather jumpsuit. Instead, steer towards elegant maxi dresses or tailored cocktail frocks.

Many wedding invitations will arrive with a dress code, which could range from black-tie to cocktail attire – this will help guide your fashion choice.

One must also consider the climate, especially if you are attending a destination wedding. Be sure to pack a shawl or smart jacket to wear over your dress. And if your clutch bag has space, take a pair of pretty flats to allow for extra hours on the dance floor.

We’ve done the mall trawling for you and found three beautiful dresses to suit any type of occasion. Best bit? They are all available in Dubai shopping malls now.

Blue maxi dress, Dhs199, H&M, visit Mall of the Emirates

A classic navy gown with feminine lace inserts on the bodice. This wear-forever dress will suit a multitude of different events and rings in at under Dhs200.

Give Your Home a Makeover

What makes a house a home is how you decorate the interiors. Yes, each room in your home needs to serve its purpose. But it should also be welcoming to the people living in it and for their guests. When you do up your interiors, every piece of furniture and accessory plays an important role. We find out the latest trends to give your home a new look for the new season.

It’s all about prints
From graphics and geometrics, ikats and kilims to plaids and paisleys, prints are making a comeback in home furnishings and fabrics this season. Combined with a muted or a neutral background, these colourful prints can add a special touch to every room in your house.

Walk into Crate & Barrel at the Mall of the Emirates, Dubai for bright, contemporary furnishings to brighten up your indoors.

Understated luxury
Dubai has always loved luxury. Now people have moved away from expensive labels and over-the-top décor. There is a growing trend towards real craftsmanship and understated luxury. Instead of highly glossy and crystal studded features and fittings with a lot of glitter and bling, it’s all about adding subtle touches with materials like brass, silver and mother of pearl. Now you can make a muted statement in your home with Marina Home’s collections, available at the Mall of the Emirates, Dubai. Marina’s selection will create a visual harmony in your homes. With products sourced from more than 20 countries across 4 continents, Marina’s designs combine the classic and the contemporary, modern with the rustic and the avant garde with the exotic.

Go all white
A pristine, all white decor is inviting, serene and romantic. You can easily get this look from White Company at the Mall of the Emirates. Their collection of stylish and beautifully designed products speaks of quality and yet remains affordable. The attention to detail is seen in everything from the hand-stitching on a luxurious high thread-count pillowcase to the clean lines of their furniture.

Traditional makes a comeback
Traditional handicrafts get some well-deserved attention this year as one of the most trending home designs. Crafts from all around the world can add an elegant touch to your home. Walk into Persian Carpet House at the Mall of the Emirates to shop for authentic hand-tufted carpets, handicrafts and antiques from the region. They are one of the biggest retailers and wholesalers of rugs and carpets in the Emirates.

The latest trend in the home design scene has the vintage combining with the contemporary, with old family heirlooms finding a place alongside your new buys. The other places where you can get great buys for your home are Zara Home, Home Sweet Home, Home Center, Grand Home, ID Design, Al Jaber Gallery, MOOD, Tanagra, The Red Carpet, The One and Villeroy & Boch.
It will be exciting to see how every homemaker interprets these trends to create a new look for their living spaces for this new season.
