Paris is the last event in a month-long fashion extravaganza that gives us a brief look at the clothes we’ll be wearing during the winter months. We’ve narrowed down the most common trends from fall/winter 2017, to show you what the designers of Paris Fashion Week have in store for the upcoming season.
Metallics are back again, but this time it’s the silver hue that was the primary focus on the catwalks. Expect to see it in just about everything, from coats to trousers, dresses to shows.
Let it flow
One of the biggest outerwear trends of Fall 2017 is a throwback to Victorian times. Yes, the humble cape is back. You can't go wrong with a classic.
The pinstripe may be better-associated with suiting (and menswear in general), but it's not beholden to that. This season, the pinstripe appeared on everything from shirts, trousers, jackets and ruffled dresses.
This trend was first spotted on the catwalks of Milan and seems to have made the jump from Italy to France. Many designers in Paris were fond of adding a dash of fur to their collections, albeit only on the arms of jackets and coats.
Pretty as a princess
Silhouettes and hues that were more akin to royalty were familiar this season. With light gowns and dresses lightening up the intense black for which Paris fashion is most famous for.
That's not to say that Paris strayed too far away from its love of black this year. Instead of the little black dress, catwalks were full of big black leather coats.
The milliners must have put the work in pre-show, as the hats were certainly out in force this year. There was a mixture of practical headwear (including a few cap-cum-beanie inventions) along with the radical; like the hat that doubles as a handbag.
