Mall of the Emirates, the region’s first shopping resort and flagship luxury destination, will mark Chinese New Year at Mall of the Emirates with traditional entertainment, promotions and competitions from February 3 to 13.
The shopping, dining and entertainment destination is ready to enthral Chinese tourists arriving in the UAE with amazing offers and a carefully curated selection of cultural activities and roaming entertainment.
“There is a steady influx of Chinese holidaymakers who seek the best possible shopping and leisure experiences in Dubai and the UAE’s recent relaxation of entry visa rules for Chinese citizens is a contributing factor,” said Hussain Moosa, Director for Mall of the Emirates at Majid Al Futtaim – Properties.
“Mall of the Emirates has much to offer Chinese tourists, from the convenience of staying at international hotel chains to easy access to all their desirable brands and family leisure and entertainment options, including Ski Dubai and VOX Cinemas, creating great moments every time they visit. Chinese New Year also gives us an opportunity to make our Chinese guests visiting the country feel at home with traditional festivities and showcase the history and heritage of this culturally rich country to the rest of our visitors.”
Mall of the Emirates will transform for the occasion with a visually striking production ‘I Dreamed a Dream’, which will take visitors on a journey through one girl’s dreams and fantasies while showcasing the stunning traditional Chinese performing arts with lion and dragon dance and acrobatic feats. The shows will take place at 5 PM, 6.15 PM, 7.45 PM, and 9.45 PM daily from February 3 -13.
The mall’s Luxury Wing will turn into a cultural hub with activities highlighting Chinese crafts. Visitors can try their hand at different workshops, including calligraphy, Chinese fan craft, rice painting and playing Mahjong, a popular game of skill, strategy and calculation in China.
According to the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, China is now the fourth-most popular country of origin for tourists travelling to Dubai from abroad, representing a compound annual growth rate of 12 per cent in 2018. Mall of the Emirates has become the preferred shopping and leisure destination for Chinese tourists looking for luxury brands, targeted services and family activities all in one place. Chinese guests will find it easy to navigate the destination with leaflets and maps printed in Mandarin and guest services staff who speak the language. Additionally, shoppers can now make payments at the mall directly through WeChat Pay. Free shuttle buses from and to major hotels in Dubai will also make the mall easily accessible to tourists during the celebrations.
Chinese New Year is a major celebration for families, when multiple generations gather to remember loved ones. Many people mark the occasion by decorating their homes – particularly in the colour red – lighting lanterns and buying new clothes, shoes and accessories. Food is also important, with fish, mandarins and dumplings considered to be particularly auspicious.
During the Chinese New Year, shoppers will be rewarded with amazing promotions and a daily prize of AED 15,000. Visitors who spend AED 1000 or more in the mall’s shops, dining outlets or entertainment facilities will be eligible to enter the prize draw.
