3 Dresses To Suit Your Mood

The best frocks to match your attitude.

Stylish and flattering dresses to match your attitude

Stylish and flattering dresses to match your attitude

Three stylish dresses to fit how you’re feeling – all available from the shopping malls in Dubai and across the Middle East.

The Confidence Booster

We all have those dreaded “fat days”. This is when you need a highly flattering wear-anywhere dress that you can quickly throw on and feel great wearing.

Enter Diane von Furstenberg’s classic wrap dress – an iconic silhouette that suits just about every body type under the sun. The style nips in at the smallest part of your waist fall at a flattering midi length skim the midriff and covers arms – an all-around winner in our eyes.

Opt for timeless black or take your pick from an array of new season rainbow hues and prints, such as this tropical floral version.

The Mood-Lifting Dress

Whatever the reason for a bad mood, be it a stressful day at the office or the kids acting out on the school run, we’re firm believers that throwing on a fabulous frock can help smooth away a strop.

This metallic sequin-splashed mini dress by Zara Dubai is a great mood lifter. We challenge you not to feel amazing while wearing this statement number. Now you need a place to wear it… we recommend somewhere with a dancefloor.

Sequin dress, Zara in Dubai

The I-Mean-Business LBD

An important day at work (or job interview) calls for an outfit that not only ensures you look professional but also makes you feel confident and ready to tackle what lies ahead.

From experience, we can vouch for something smart and structured in a neutral tone – you can always add a pop of colour and on-trend elements through accessories. However, we say steer clear of accessories that are too loud, as you want your potential new boss to be listening to your words, not admiring a rack of jangling bangles.

This office-approved dress by Massimo Dutti is professional, modest and on-trend in this season’s print du jour, gingham.

The IT Girls Guide To Surviving Fashion Week In Style

How to prep and what to pack for a whirlwind month in the fashion capitals.

Navigate Fashion Week like a blogger with our guide

Navigate Fashion Week like a blogger with our go-to guide

As any style-loving, IT girl will tell you, the real trick to surviving the chaos of Fashion Week all lies in expert preparation. Like an athlete training for a competition or Victoria’s Secret supermodel preparing for the big annual show, one must be thoroughly prepped to withstand the busy fashion month across the capitals.

Whether you are heading to NYC, London, Paris or Milan, the most famous month on the calendar is jam-packed with shows, appointments, backstage interviews, glitzy soirées – and the after-parties, of course!

The Packing: Quick Tips To Prepping Like A Pro

Once you have your schedule, try on outfits in advance (including the correct undergarments and accessories to go with each look) and take photos. This tactic will ensure you don’t over pack and will make getting dressed a whole lot quicker when you need to rush out the door for the first show of the day.

Make sure you get everything washed and dry-cleaned well in advance so that it arrives back in plenty of time for the trip.

Pack extra flat shoes to pop in your tote, especially if you plan on wearing heels to a show. Chances are the show will run late, and you will need to get to the next slot, which is no easy feat in stilettos.

Make a suitcase checklist on your phone, which you can update as you go along. Jot down everything you will need, from your toothbrush to phone charger, no matter how small – these are often the things we forget.

A busy show-packed agenda makes eating regularly and healthily a whole lot harder, so stick to a decent meal plan ahead of Fashion Week and pack plenty of nutritious snacks, such as nut bars, quinoa chips and protein powders, in your suitcase. Once you have arrived in your location, you can stock up on fresh fruit and veggies to store in your hotel minibar fridge.

The Essentials: Front Row-Approved Staples To See You Through Fashion Week

Blazer by Alexa Chung at Boutique 1 available at Mall of the Emirates

Blazer, Alexa Chung at Boutique 1, Mall of the Emirates

While you might be viewing the Spring/Summer 2018 collections, February will be chilly in the fashion capitals, so wrap up in oversized coats, cosy knits and sharp jackets. We love this double-breasted blazer from Alexa Chung’s new label.

Cat-eye sunglasses by Zara available at Mall of the Emirates and City Centres

Cat-eye sunglasses, Zara, visit Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, City Centre Bahrain, City Centre Muscat, City Centre Alexandria and City Centre Maadi

You will need a killer pair of dark shades to ward off the flashes of street style snappers, and perhaps the show lights a la Anna Wintour.

Race day fashion finds for the 2017 Abu Dhabi Formula 1

As the international racing set descends onto The Yas Marina Circuit for the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 on 24-26 November, we turn our attention trackside as our outfit hunt for the race day.

One of the biggest weekends on the UAE social calendar, the Abu Dhabi Formula 1
never fails to attract a glamorous crowd, filled with royalty, celebrities and of course, the drivers themselves. This year’s starry three-day affair is expected to be bigger than ever with luxurious lounges and brunches with views of the tracks, plus performances by award-winning acts including Calvin Harris, Pink and Mumford & Sons.

Whether you are attending the yacht parties, club nights, concerts or the big races, you will need a slew of stylish looks to make sure you stand out from the pack.

To give you a head start in the sartorial stakes, we have rounded up three of our favourite frocks.

Welcome to the New Season

Forget you are shopping in Dubai and break the rules with winter warmers this season.

Clashing checks, woollen jumpers and many deep, dark berry shades stormed across the catwalks in a seasonal collection more suited for those expecting snow instead of the sun. But savvy Dubai style setters won’t break a sweat about wearing these hot new looks around town. Because that’s the best part about fashion – the rules are made to be broken. Besides, there is always the air conditioning…

news-season-main-image

Checkmate

Is it a coat or a rug? When it comes to checks, it does not matter – since they strutted down the catwalk, thick plaid coats have been seen all over every fashion influencer’s Instagram. Featuring 1950s style oversized cuffs, a loose fit and a stand-up collar, Massimo Dutti’s interpretation of the catwalk style has timeless style. Moreover, at 999 AED, it’s on every Audrey Hepburn fan’s winter wish list - so get it before it goes.

Thigh’s the limit

Gloriously impractical, thigh high stiletto boots are not for the faint-hearted. But that has not stopped them dominating the catwalk this season and, in a city where calling a cab is second nature, they are a great fit for Dubai. Combining this season’s obsession with velvet and the onward march of thigh high boots, Christian Louboutin is the place to go. His Classe boots start at 5,590 AED.

Black thigh high boots are the shoe of this season.

New romantic

Romance is alive and well this season, with sheers, chiffons, floral and lace threaded throughout almost every designer’s collection. We love Zimmermann’s darker twist on the romantic theme with black lace ruffles and its drawstring neckline’s nod to folk chic.

That’s it, folks

After a lengthy flirtation with lace, Self Portrait’s turned to feminine prints and simpler silhouettes for A/W 2017 and made itself the go-to brand this season. From florals to folk chic - and all in red, the stand out colour of the season, this dress ticks off so many trends it’s practically a collection on its own.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the best pink fashion in Dubai

PINK is having not just a moment, but also a month. And with the start of October marking Breast Cancer Awareness month, what better time to get in the pink? As usual, our favourite celebrities are leading the way, with a wave of salmon, bubblegum and candyfloss colours sweeping the red carpet.

Here are some of our favourite celebs to nail ‘thinking pink’:

Elisabeth Moss

Elisabeth was pretty in pink as she picked up her ‘outstanding lead actress’ Emmy in a stunning pale pink tea-length gown by her favourite designer Prabal Gurung.

Rihanna

Rihanna is pushing fashion boundaries in a striking beaded and feathered two-piece ensemble. Riri has long been known for her out-there fashion sense but this Prada number, which she accessorised with fluffy Charlotte Olympia heels, rose-coloured Chopard jewels and even a pair of pink Cutler and Gross sunglasses, is nothing to blush about.

Gigi Hadid

Showing off her playful side, in a bubblegum pink metallic Kreist leather jacket and flares, Gigi demonstrates that fashion can be fun. The only thing this biker Barbie look needs is a Ken doll by her side. Volunteers should form an orderly queue.

Emma Stone

When it comes to thinking pink, Emma Stone has got the form.  Whether her hair is Park Avenue Princess blonde or her natural red hue, Emma knows a classic pink number is the best way to keep things looking rosy. Moreover, this stunning pink and black number with a sweetheart neckline is no exception.

Zoe Kravitz

Zoe Kravitz stayed true to her rock roots in this rainbow feathered Dior showstopper at the Emmy’s. Featuring pink teamed with almost every colour of the rainbow, Kravitz’s fairytale number proved that pink can be edgy as well as angelic.

Word on the Street: Our Top Looks off The Catwalk

We turn our attention to the latest street style stars making a big impact on the sidewalks

Irene Kim, Aimee Song, Camila Coelho seen in the streets of Manhattan during New York Fashion Week

As the fashion world’s most prominent figures descend on the capitals to attend a whirlwind of shows and events, eagle-eyed photographers take to the streets ready to click their every angle and outfit, down to even the smallest accessory details and even nail colour.

These stylish stars, many of which made their start in the industry by simply posting daily outfit blogs, are decked head-to-toe in the most sought-after pieces personally sent to them by top brands.

For a designer, a single street style shot showing a well-heeled influencer in their item can accumulate hundreds of thousands of likes on social media, ensuring it reaches a mass audience – many claim it can even be more effective than an ad campaign.

As a result Instagram stars and influencers have been turning the street into their own catwalk over the last handful of years.

Here we look to a few of our favourite looks from the recent Fashion Weeks in New York through to Paris. We’ll also show you how to imitate their stylish look with the essential pieces to buy from Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.

CHIARA FERRAGNI
Streetstyle star Chiara Ferragni seen during Milan Fashion Week

Chiara Ferragni is a big name on the street style scene. The 29-year-old Italian-born beauty jumped on the popularity of her fashion blog, The Blonde Salad, by launching a shoe line that now sells in over 300 stores worldwide. With 8.5 million (and counting) Instagram fans, the influencer and businesswomen never fails to live up to her fan’s expectations in the wardrobe department.

Both her lifestyle blog, Song of Style, and YouTube channel feature photos and videos focused on fashion, design inspiration, DIY and more. With millions of page views a month, Aimee is considered one of the biggest bloggers in the industry and has gone onto collaborated with leading brands including Lacoste, in addition to running her own interior design business, Song of Style Design.

This strawberry-tinted hue, as seen at Carolina Herrera’s NYFW show, is one of our favourite must-try shades of Spring and a great starting point if you’re new to bright lip colours.

The universally flattering hue can be worn glossy, matte or as a stain. Wear with an equally dramatic smokey eye for runway glamour, or go for a subtle wash of colour just on your pout.

SIDE SWEEP

A model poses backstage at the Michael Kors Spring 2017 Runway Show in New York City

Mixing up your hair parting is a super quick and effortless way to instantly transform your hairdo – with no trip to the hairdressers needed. At Michael Kors, the models wore their locks swung to the side with artfully tousled waves.

This beach-inspired look can be easily achieved, simply rough-dry hair and work through one pump of mousse for added texture. Take a fine-toothed comb and part hair to one side, about one a half inches from the center.

Using a large paddle brush, smooth down the front and finish with a spritz of holding spray. If you a few extra minutes, run over the ends with curling tongs.

Shop the look: Fibre Mousse, Dhs 69, H&M, Mall of the Emirates

BABY BLUES

A model, beauty runway detail, walks the runway at the Christian Siriano fashion show during New York Fashion Week

The models at American fashion designer Christian Siriano’s Spring/Summer 2017 show made a big impact by rocking bright blue liquid lined eyes. Try this fun make-up trend at home by lining your upper lid with a slick of sky blue eyeliner.

Pair with selfie-worthy glowing skin, a coat of mascara and just a touch of rosey blush to finish the look.

Shop the look: Eye Liner in ‘Smooth Blue’, Dhs 93, MAC Cosmetics at Harvey Nichols Dubai, Mall of the Emirates

Hair How-To: New Season Locks

The Spring trends to try at home and our insider tricks of the trade you need to know now

A model backstage at Anna Sui Ready to Wear Spring Summer 2017 fashion show

The Beehive

Gigi Hadid at the Anna Sui Spring/Summer 2017 show in New York City, wearing a beehive hairstyle

Over at the Anna Sui Spring/Summer 2017 show in New York City, the models took to the runway rocking retro beehive bouffants.

The trick to achieving this look at home is all down to backcombing and a holding spray.

  • Voluminous beehives work best on day-hold locks as the hair has more texture to it than silky strands, so you can forgo the fresh blow-dry.

  • Concentrating on your crown, section hair backwards before taking a comb and brushing upwards towards your scalp - the aim is to create a matted look, which you can then gently smooth over the top with a comb.

  • Pull back two front sections with bobby pins and spritz generously with hairspray.

Pro tip: For maximum volume, go easy on the conditioner. Just apply a small amount to the ends before rinsing and avoid the crown altogether.

Straight On

Shiny straight hair at Victoria Beckham’s Runway Show in New York City

For Spring/Summer 2017, Victoria Beckham sent her girls down the runway with super sleek straight locks. To top off the modern look, hair was parted neatly down the middle and smoothed with a high gloss serum.

  • Get this polished look by blow-drying hair with a large paddle brush followed by a runover with flat irons.

  • Use a fine-tooth comb to divide your parting into the centre and finish with a drop of moisture-rich serum or balm.

Pro tip: To tame flyaways, spritz a little hair spray onto a clean toothbrush and softy brush down.

Seven surprising trends from Paris Fashion Week

Paris is the last event in a month-long fashion extravaganza that gives us a brief look at the clothes we’ll be wearing during the winter months. We’ve narrowed down the most common trends from fall/winter 2017, to show you what the designers of Paris Fashion Week have in store for the upcoming season.

Silver
Metallics are back again, but this time it’s the silver hue that was the primary focus on the catwalks. Expect to see it in just about everything, from coats to trousers, dresses to shows.

Let it flow
One of the biggest outerwear trends of Fall 2017 is a throwback to Victorian times. Yes, the humble cape is back. You can't go wrong with a classic.

Stripes out
The pinstripe may be better-associated with suiting (and menswear in general), but it's not beholden to that. This season, the pinstripe appeared on everything from shirts, trousers, jackets and ruffled dresses.

Get furry
This trend was first spotted on the catwalks of Milan and seems to have made the jump from Italy to France. Many designers in Paris were fond of adding a dash of fur to their collections, albeit only on the arms of jackets and coats.

Pretty as a princess
Silhouettes and hues that were more akin to royalty were familiar this season. With light gowns and dresses lightening up the intense black for which Paris fashion is most famous for.

Black leather
That's not to say that Paris strayed too far away from its love of black this year. Instead of the little black dress, catwalks were full of big black leather coats.

Hats on
The milliners must have put the work in pre-show, as the hats were certainly out in force this year. There was a mixture of practical headwear (including a few cap-cum-beanie inventions) along with the radical; like the hat that doubles as a handbag.

Six top trends of London Fashion Week

In the blink of an eye, the fashion shows in a wintery, windy London are over. There’s not much time before the next round of catwalks open in Milan and Paris, either. But there’s just enough time to read our breakdown of the biggest fall/winter 2017 trends from the United Kingdom. Scroll down for a sneak peek at what everyone will be wearing in six months’ time (as well as a few approved tips for making each look work for you).

Flower power
This season sees the natural evolution of garden prints. Think traditional roses and vines applied to cool clothes instead. To play up the motif, looks matched prints with tailored dresses, bloom-covered outerwear or clashing two-piece suits.

White is right
Britain has given Victorian-era nightgown frocks a major update, now made a cutting edge with pattern, ruffles, and length. Expect details sowed in via white stitching, funky materials for the sleeves, and ruffle hems.

Pink is (still) here
The fashion world continues its obsession with the light pink hue (it’s been doing the style rounds since fall/winter 2014), but English brands delivered the colour in fresh new ways. Coats and dresses used contrasting textures to breath new life into the shade, while the colour finds its way into patterns on trousers and shirts.

Boys are back in town
For a second season, classic menswear gets an elegant makeover for London’s catwalks. Think tweedy fabrics (made feminine thanks to smaller, sleeker silhouettes) appearing in trench coats and longer dresses. If you’re feeling adventurous, feel free to match separate plaids top and bottom.

Embrace the puff
Quilted outerwear is back, following on from last year’s resurgence of the puffer jacket. This time it’s been revamped with bright colours and bold shapes. Reserved mainly for outerwear, these jackets provide an easy way to look stylish with one item of clothing.

All about sequins
No longer reserved solely for cocktail dresses, expect to see sequins everywhere this fall. All you need is a flattering fit and enough items to counter the sparkle. Sequins make an appearance during the day – on knitwear and sandals or shoes – and in the evening, with even bolder colours in dresses and two-pieces.

STANDOUT SHOWS

Models dance on the runway during the Stella McCartney show at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017
Featuring 80’s-esque leather mini dresses, lamé party pieces and skinny tailored suits, Anthony Vaccarello’s debut collection for Saint Laurent was one of the hottest collections of the season.

At the Balmain show, designer Olivier Rousteing sent his supermodels (which included IT girls Gigi Hadid and Stella Maxwell) down the catwalk in athleisure inspired slinky leggings and sultry cutout dresses.

While over in London, Burberry unveiled their first-ever shoppable September 2016 collection allowing clients to buy any piece (83 womenswear and menswear runway looks) straight off the catwalk after the show.

To wrap up a fashion-packed month in the capitals, Miu Miu closed Paris Fashion Week with a show at the iconic Palais d’Iéna. But the most memorable moment of the month went to Stella McCartney in Paris, which saw the models end the show with a feel-good dance-off down the catwalk.

While the guests take to their seats, beyond the velvet curtain a host of make-up artists, hairdressers and stylists are franticly applying the finishing tweaks backstage, while fashion’s favourite faces Snapchat and take selfies in-between touch-ups.

Model of the moment Kendall Jenner, along with sisters Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid, are arguably the current reigning queens of the catwalk, walking in the most coveted shows and landing the biggest ad campaigns. Throughout the flurry of fashion week, the girls were spotted together backstage and on the runway at countless Spring/Summer 2017 shows such as Marc Jacobs and Chanel.

The Edit: Seven Ways to Win Spring Summer

As seasoned fashionistas will know, the Summer brings with it fresh new clothes in bright colours. But which shades are bang on trend this season? And do prints beat florals? We've shortlisted the hardest working wardrobe essentials to keep your fashion game strong during the hotter months. Read on for seven fail-safe ways to win Spring & Summer.

Embrace fuchsia
The colour of the seasons is pink – but not the neon kind. The catwalks of Paris were decorated in fuchsia, with the colour starring in the shows from the likes of Topshop and Bottega Veneta.

Deconstructed shirts
Think oversized shirts, eccentric cuts that show off some shoulder, or widened sleeves and large collars and cuffs. If you don't have a large blue shirt in your wardrobe, now's the time to pick one up.

The eighties are back
Designers took heed of eighties excess this season, with oversized silhouettes becoming the hero of many collections. While Gucci's eighties looks were more proper, Dior went with slogan-T-shirts and vintage neon sweaters.

Meet tulle
Tulle – which you'll probably recognise as the material that makes up a ballerina's tutu dress – is the fabric of the season. You'll find elements of it in both formal and casual tops and dresses.

Superior sportswear
This catwalk favourite isn't going anyway. The rise of casual wear continues, and the fad of comfy – but stylish – sportswear was spotted in most collections, from Versace to Stella McCartney (who has even partnered up with Adidas).

Tiny bags
Handbags are always necessary and useful, but prepare for them to shrink in size in the Spring. Expect vintage snap fasteners, gold chains, and tiny pouches.

Ruffles at the ready
The humble ruffle has been re-invented for the season. Catwalks were brimming with ruffle dresses, some made in formal blacks – with sequined embroidery – and others frayed and made out of linen.

The Edit: What to wear in 2017

Fashion is ever changing. The moment you get used to itself, another 'next big thing' comes along. With all designer brands presenting new collections every six months – or sooner – staying on top of it is sometimes a full-time job. Thankfully, when it comes to menswear, there are a few key staples that never go away. This style guide will showcase some of the Spring/Summer's most wearable trends.

Embrace your inner punk
Expect to see antique rings and stacks of bracelets on men, and we're pleased to report that denim is back in a big way. Expect blue jeans and subtle patters that channel the counter-cultural musical movement that grew out of the 1980s.

Hide in plain site
Camouflage is one of the fashion's most resilient trends – it never quite disappears.  True to form, this Spring it returns – but in a radically different form. The general idea of camouflage remains – a mishmash of overlapping layers in colours or textures – but in a cool new way.

Prints are charming
You'll remember this look from last summer. Yes, the billowed short-sleeved shirt made in colourful silk is very much this year's big thing. And why not? They're perfect for strolling along at the height of the heat of summer. Expect them in all shapes, sizes, and patterns.

The return of retro
Sometimes fashion chooses to focus on the past on purpose. This season sees jackets go back to the 1970s, with a renewed popularity of vintage-style jackets (like the bomber, and denim jacket – see above). The old styles have trim silhouettes – which keeps them bang up to date.

Polo's are popular
Invented by French tennis pro and businessman, Rene Lacoste, the polo shirt is no longer used solely in sports. This season sees their return to the catwalks, but in new materials (such as soft cashmere). Expect slim cuts and shorter sleeves.

Colourful suiting
Men's fashion will never stray far away from the suit. This season sees lighter materials (so you don't bake in the sun) in spring-friendly colours. Forget the boring old navy suit, why not embrace burgundy, tan or beige?

How To Dress Like…Sienna Miller

A young Sienna Miller first came onto the scene in 2004 with roles in two hit British films, Layer Cake and Alfie starring opposite Jude Law – who she would later go on to to become romantically involved with.

The beautiful young couple made waves in the press, largely due to Sienna’s innate sense of style. She is often credited with resurrecting the boho-chic fashion trend movement throughout the 2000s - think floppy hats, prairie skirts and crochet gilets with low-slung leather belts and pirate boots.

In the years that followed, Sienna was featured on the covers of glossy magazines across the world, including both British and American Vogue, in addition to fronting campaigns for Hugo Boss and Burberry.

While the blonde actress’s relationship with Jude ended in 2006 (although the pair later rekindled their romance in 2009 only to break up again in 2011), her professional career took off with roles in Factory Girl, Interview and The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, followed by The Edge of Love opposite Keira Knightley.

In recent years, Sienna has been seen in a slew of critically acclaimed box office hits including Foxcatcher and Clint Eastwood's American Sniper, as well as Burnt, alongside Bradley Cooper, and The Lost City of Z. Her next film will see her star opposite Ben Affleck and Zoe Saldana in the hotly anticipated crime drama Live By Night, set for release in January 2017.

Nowadays the 34-year-old mother-of-one (Sienna gave birth to her daughter Marlowe with ex-fiancé actor Tom Sturridge in 2012) takes a more streamlined approach to her wardrobe, as seen just a few weeks ago, when Sienna attended an event for women in film in New York City.

The British beauty looked polished in leather shorts, a white tee and tights topped off with a checked red tweed jacket.

The New Season Staples

How to wear and style the ultimate love-forever pieces

Fashion can be a confusing world – even for those who work in the industry! Each year there are several seasons, capsule collections and a continuous roster of trends – many of which you may have seen come round before.

Case in point: last seasons’ mega choker necklace trend, or Autumn/Winter 2016-17’s huge seventies revival. And while we’re all for dabbling in the latest trends and splashing out on IT pieces, here we’re looking to the failsafe fashion items that will never go out of style.

Scroll down below to discover our essential buys from the shops at Mall of the Emirates.

The pick: Leather trousers
Smarter than denim and edgier than tailored trousers, leather pants are a go-to for a multitude of occasions. New season updates include leather culottes and cropped styles, but we say look for a flattering drainpipe style. Wear this wardrobe staple with polished pieces such as fine-knit sweaters, slim-fit blazers and spindly heels.

Green leather trousers, Dhs5,610, Frame Denim at Boutique 1, visit Mall of the Emirates

If you prefer your look with a little colour, go for an ink blue or forest green leather. We’re currently lusting after this pair of skinny leather trousers by Los Angeles-based brand Frame Denim.

The pick: White shirt

There is no fashion item with more clout than a crisp white shirt. This unisex piece can be updated with a few simple style tricks. Steer towards an oversized fit, accessorized with a nipped-in waist belt, statement brooches and jewels.
White shirt, Dhs119, Mango Dubai, visit Mall of the Emirates

Tuck it in, roll up the sleeves or pop the collar; whichever way it’s worn, a white shirt will forever have a place in our closets.

The pick: Court heels

Pointy high heels win major points in the style department. Modest for the office and incredible flattering to the pins, these glamorous soles will instantly amp up an outfit. Pick a pair in either black, nude or metallic.
Silver leather heels, Dhs269, Zara, visit Mall of the Emirates

These ombré silver stilettos by Zara Dubai will go with almost everything in your wardrobe.

How To Dress Like Hailey Baldwin

We look at the American model and reveal how to get her fashion forward look

If you follow Gigi Hadid or Kendall Jenner on social media, chances are you would have come across Hailey Baldwin. The 19-year-old daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin is fast becoming one of fashion’s new favourite faces.

A regular face among the glamorous young Hollywood set, which includes the Hadid and Jenner sisters, Hailey first made waves after appearing in shoots for Tatler and LOVE magazine, before landing her first campaign for French Connection in 2014.

Hailey has also snagged coveted campaigns for GUESS, Topshop, Philipp Plein and Tommy Jeans, as well as fashion shoots in top glossy magazines including L'Officiel and Vogue Brazil.

Throw in a whirlwind romance with Justin Bieber, countless paparazzi streetstyle shots and nearly 8 million follows on Instagram, and the celebrity offspring is now one of the industry’s most-watched IT girls.

A fixture at Fashion Week, Hailey was recently spotted attending a host of shows across the capitals last month in addition to striding down the catwalk for Elie Saab, Dolce & Gabbana and Julien Macdonald.

Stepping out in Paris, Hailey looked chic as she made her way to a show in the Tuileries Jardin wearing a statement velvet coat with an asymmetric miniskirt and thigh-high heeled boots.

Here, we show you how to get her on-trend look from the Middle East’s leading shopping malls.

Dress Codes Deconstructed

From black tie to cocktail attire, we reveal exactly what to wear for any occasion

The last two months of the year are a time filled with celebrations. With so many parties on the horizon, what is a girl to wear?

We’ve got you covered with our ultimate guide to after-dark dressing. Whether you’re on the hunt for the perfect cocktail bash look or something for a more formal black tie event, we reveal the sartorial solutions for any dress code.

The dress code: black tie
One of the most formal dress codes, black tie usually requires a full-length gown for women and a dark suit or tuxedo for men. If you have yet to invest in a gown, look for something you will be able to wear for years to come to justify the price – which usually runs higher for a gown. Harvey Nichols Dubai in Mall of the Emirates offers a huge selection of designer dresses in every shade and style imaginable. If you’re after a more purse-friendly option, head to BCBGMAXAZRIA or Mango Dubai where you’ll find floor-length gowns and maxi dresses to suit all tastes.

Style tip: Formal events are the perfect opportunity to feel like a princess for the night. We say go all out – wear your favourite shoes, long gloves and even a tiara if you fancy!

Green gown, Dhs499, Mango Dubai, visit Mall of the Emirates

The dress code: cocktail attire

Whether it’s an office party or a friend’s celebratory bash, cocktail attire calls for a fabulous frock or jumpsuit. This semiformal dress code is less dressy than black tie, but still glamorous. Opt for a party dress, LBD or tailored jumpsuit in a luxe fabric, such as velvet or silk.

Style tip: This sleek black jumpsuit is the perfect wardrobe staple for cocktail events. We love the culotte trousers and strapless bodice. Jazz up with statement accessories such as a jewelled waist belt and gilt box clutch.

Black jumpsuit, Dhs329, Topshop, visit Mall of the Emirates

The dress code: smart casual
The easiest and most relaxed of all dress codes, smart casual allows extra breathing room in the style department. Steer clear of denim and old T-shirts, and instead don tailored trousers with a beaded top or a floral dress with flats or heels.

Traditional Menswear In Dubai

A region’s clothes and fashion is always influenced by its history, climate, and religion. Clothing is an expression of its unique culture and heritage. And Dubai is no exception to this rule. Even though it is one of the most progressive cities in the Middle East, a large population in the city still wears traditional Arabic clothing on a daily basis.

Traditional men’s clothing in the UAE is dominated by three items: the thobe, the keffiyeh and the agal.Thobe (also gandurah, dish-dasha, and kandura) is a loose, white, ankle-length robe worn by men. Originally used as a protection from the harsh rays of the sun, keffiyeh or ghutrah is a headscarf used by men in the UAE. The agal is a black band that’s used to keep the keffiyeh in place.

If you're in Dubai and looking to buy traditional men’s clothing, Al Madani Tailoring is definitely the place to visit.

Skincare 101- How To Give Yourself An At-home Facial

  • Skin 101

We all know the importance of a daily cleanse, tone and moisturise, but once in a while your skin deserves an at-home treat.

Turn your bathroom into your very own spa with our guide to the best beauty products to buy from Mall of the Emirates and learn the essentials tricks to ensuring your complexion is in tip top condition.

After removing all of your make-up thoroughly, jump in a hot bath filled with Epsom salt (great for detoxifying) and add a few drops of nourishing skin oil. We love using kitchen-cupboard staples such as olive oil or coconut oil – both of which can be easily sourced at the supermarkets in Dubai.

Next, get to work massaging in a cleansing milk or gel – the steam from the hot water will help open up your pores to ensure you get a really thorough wash. Finish with a splash of cold water to close your pores.

Once your skin squeaky clean, it’s onto exfoliation. While many of us use a scrub, we advise trying an acid exfoliant which is much more gentle and effective way to remove dead skin. Grainy scrubs tend to rip the delicate epidermis of the skin and can spread bacteria resulting in blemishes. Rodial’s Exfoliating Pads are one of are favourites and come soaked with fruit acid to help renew your skin.

With your face all prepped it’s onto a mask. Pick a formula suited to your skin’s need, be it oily, dry or congested. Bobbi Brown’s Radiance Boost is a brilliant multitasking mask to purify, balance and nourish the skin. Allow the product to dry for at least ten minutes before wiping off with a warm, wet cloth.

If you only invest in one area of your skincare regime, let it be serum. Thin in texture and highly concentrated, serums should be applied on clean skin before your moisturiser. These potent liquids come in an array of formulas for different skin types. If anti-ageing is your main concern, give Clinique’s Smart Custom Repair Serum a go.

Allow your serum to skin in for a few minutes before followed by a rich night cream and a pea-sized amount of eye cream.

Let’s face it; flying is terrible for your skin. From re-circulated and moisture-free cabin air to bacteria-ridden seats and surfaces, airplanes might be the most convenient way to jet around the globe, but they are certainly not the most hygienic when it comes to your complexion.

How To Dress Like Rihanna

  • get-the-look 01

Be it on or off the stage, Rihanna is never one to shy away from over-the-top outfits and hard-to-try trends.

From a curve-hugging transparent sheath decked with thousands of crystals, to a traffic-stopping neon green fur coat teamed with thigh-high vinyl boots, and who could forget about the couture yellow-caped gown complete with a cascading train she wore to last year’s prestigious Met Gala – it’s official, nobody nails show-stopping style quite like Rihanna.

While the 28-year-old’s standout wardrobe may not be to everyone’s taste (how many woman can pull off a fluffy pink mink minidress with matching bobby socks?), we have to hand it to RiRi, she is definitely a fearless fashionista.

Famous for her smash hit beats Diamonds, Umbrella, We Found Love and Stay (to name just a few), a few weeks ago the Barbadian singer and songwriter released a powerful ballad titled Sledgehammer for the Star Trek Beyond soundtrack.

Showing off her fashion IT girl status, Rihanna recently stepped out for a meeting in Soho, New York, looking sleek and sophisticated. Wearing a classic little black dress topped off with a tailored coat, the singer/songwriter jazzed up her ensemble with quirky white heels and gold space-age inspired shades.

Carrie Bradshaw, television’s ultimate style icon, nailed it when she famously revealed: “The fact is, sometimes it's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes. That's why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun.”

Or how about the memorable episode where she dramatically decaled: “I've spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes!”

While that kind of spending might be a tad extreme for most, we will admit to occasionally treating ourselves to a sparkling new pair of soles.

This season the shelves in the UAE malls are bursting with brand new shoes to suit all styles and budgets, from snakeskin stilettos to swingy, fringed mules.

Trend Alert: Printed Trouser Suits

Not to be reserved solely for office hours, this tailored wardrobe staple has been given an instant Spring/Summer update with bold colours and big prints for a new spin on cocktail attire.

While we’re all for a failsafe little black dress, sometimes a girl needs to mix it up - case in point: a statement trouser suit. Just look to fashion icon and designer Victoria Beckham, who once known for her flashy body-con frocks, now favours sleek suits tailored to perfection.

This style staple offers a timeless appeal and can be worn for a multitude of occasions for the office and beyond.

Gone are the days of bland navy suits with shapeless fits, this season we saw designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Zadig & Voltaire offer a fresh spin on the classic two-piece for their Spring/Summer 2016 collections.

Suits were tailored and form fitting with skinny trousers and shrunken jackets, splashed in eye-popping colours with look-at-me prints and embellishments.

We’ve trawled all the shops to find you best pieces available in the Dubai shopping malls now.

The soft blush shade and romantic bloom print gives this suit a feminine touch. Wear with patent flat brogues or strappy stilettos.

Stylist’s tip: Play up your best attributes by experimenting with the dimensions of the suit. For example, if you’d rather hide your thighs look out for wide-leg palazzo pants and pair with a cropped jacket to accent your waist.

We love the long boyfriend-style fit of this blazer. Pair this printed suit with leg-lengthening pointy heels.

White blazer, Dhs2,505, printed trousers, Dhs1,540, Paul & Jo at Boutique 1, visit Mall of the Emirates

Stylist’s tip: If top-to-toe prints are too loud for your taste, pick one printed piece and team with a solid block colour.
